Welcome to Black Lake Dental, where our dentists, Drs. Thiede, Shiflett, and Frank, serve patients in Olympia, Washington, and the neighboring communities. Today we would like to talk a little bit about dental veneers, and how they can help your smile!
These porcelain and resin shells are bonded to your teeth to give you a healthy, attractive smile. In fact, dental veneers can be used to correct crooked teeth, whiten your smile, or close small gaps in your mouth. Dental veneers are stain resistant and durable—but there are still things you can consider doing to extend the life of your veneers. If you care for your veneers as well as you care for your teeth they will enhance your smile for years to come.
As you’ve probably guessed, you should brush and floss every day. Remember to brush for two minutes at a time twice a day, and consider using a non-abrasive toothpaste, such as those designed for individuals with sensitive teeth. Don’t forget to floss at least once every day as well.
It’s also important that you remember to not misuse your teeth. This means not biting down on ice, metal, your fingernails, or pens. Chewing on these items could chip your teeth or crack your veneers. If this happens, you’ll need to have your old veneers removed and have new veneers placed. You may also want to avoid, or at least limit, popular beverages such as alcohol and soda.
Please remember see our dentist at least once every six months to make sure your smile is healthy and your veneers are in tip-top shape.
