Do you know what to do when there are problems with your braces? If a bracket breaks, we encourage you to call us so we can get you in and fix the problem. Meanwhile, there are some things you can do to be comfortable until you can be seen. Let’s take a look at a few common issues that may crop up while you are wearing braces.

–A wire is poking your cheeks: in this situation, you can use something with a spongy tip to flatten the wire against the tooth. Pencil erasers or Q-tips can be used to do the trick. You can also press orthodontic wax over the wire so that it doesn’t rub or irritate your soft tissues.

–A bracket comes loose: If this happens you can place wax over the bracket. If the bracket falls off, put it in a safe place and give it to us during your next scheduled appointment.

–If an archwire comes out of the bracket: Simply insert the wire into the tube using tweezers. You can also place wax on it to reduce contact with soft tissue.

–If a coil spring comes off: keep the spring and call our office. If you need to be seen we will get you in, otherwise, it may be put back on during your next scheduled visit.
